Part II: A Putter Rising from the Ashes

Since part I of this story, we are happy to say we recently completed Leo's custom TaylorMade milled prototype putter and he triumphantly returned it to the green. Of all the face options, Leo chose a standard milled in the USA Tellurium Copper for his TaylorMade Rossa. We also added newly recreated badges, redid the paint-fill, installed a black out shaft and Garsen golf were kind enough to supply a new grip. We found its torched finish unique and 1 of 1, so we left it as is, with some minor cleanup.
Triumph after Tragedy!
The collage above represents the journey of this putter after it's rescue from the rubble in Altadena, California (starting top left and working clockwise). We received the putter head and considered blasting a new finish to look new again. However, torching is a popular, custom finish and recreating the colors of this putter would be near impossible to repeat. The scars tell a story and with new putterparts, the club will perform and have its own unique look. We designed, made and installed new carbon fiber fusion emblems, installed the copper insert, new Garsen Quad Tour grip and Leo got it back on the The Links at Terranea.
Clean Copper Faces w/Brasso
Some like the way copper tarnishes after use on the greens. Others prefer the clean amber finish. If you prefer the latter, then Brasso is your friend to help keep your copper face looking new.

Give Garsen Grips a Try
Recent durability issues with other brands had us revisit the putter grip market, and we were recently very impressed with Garsen's latest offering. Leo looked at all the options and found the Quad Tour Standard length in black would be to his liking. The feel, shape, performance and durability are 2nd to none.

Let's Recycle, Renew
Prototypes like this take several directions and sometimes operations are done twice. However, the process is worth the time invested for the special putters we want to optimize or revitalize. There is also the green side of this concept: putters do not have to be scrapped. They can be reused and renewed.
There is always that thrill of walking into your golf club or store and finding that brand new putter that's just sinking everything. However, the reality of it results in parting with $200-500 these days, for the latest and greatest. That's tough, and we like to provide an alternative. New feel, new performance, on a classic and trusted design. You cannot currently buy a copper faced TaylorMade putter, but you can make one with us.
There is another harsh reality in this story: we shipped this putter from Jupiter, Florida to yet another new address for Leo in Southern California. The fire happened in January 2025, and his family is still not settled. The reality after a fire is lots of paperwork, insurance calls, time and no magical new house on the same plot of land nearly 2 years later. It sounds like hell, so we made sure that at least one area of his life is getting back to normal. The Southern California coast looks like an amazing place to golf and we are proud to be part of someone's experience there.
