Removing a putter's face insert is not for everyone.  However, with a bit of work, the putter can be optimized into something more functional, aesthetic, and personal, like the putters you see in the galleries.  Once the insert is removed, it is key to remove all reminants of previous tape or epoxy.

Your new insert must bond to a clean surface free of particles or contaminants.  This provides a long bond life, as well as accurate insert height.  The USGA insert height tolerance is +0.006"/-0.004".

Putter Insert Removal

The video to the left gives a step by step process of carefully removing the insert from an Odyssey putter without completely destroying it.  This method also works on some Ping, TaylorMade and some other putter brands.  To the right are examples of what is found once the insert is removed.

Installation

Whether installing one of our inserts to a putterhead, or any other accessory, there is a best practice to affixing it with epoxy.  To start, the following is required:

1.  A good 2-part epoxy and mixing tip. Both parts can also be appied and manually mixed together on a piece of tape.  Pictured is Golfworks VB1003, quick set 2900 psi strength club epoxy. Another option is at the link below:

2.  Denatured alcohol for cleaning, link below:

(also found at Lowes, Home Depot and other DIY stores)

3.  60 grit sanding paper, linked below:

4.  Replacement putter insert, available from Shop

Putter Insert Border.

There is sometimes a step in the insert or in the club head around the insert which could be filled.  In the instance of the insert step, we have removed it from our designs.  All of our parts are square edge, flus with the putter, no step.

When there is a step in the club face, please follow the steps below with an acrylic caulk to fill the gap.
